Whale Highlight:
During the winter months, the North Pacific Humpback whales migrate down from Alaska to the Hawaiian waters. It is here that they breed and give birth to their young. Off the coast of Maui, Hawaii is one of the major areas that the humpbacks migrate to. Working on the water daily, for as many as 11 hours a day, during these winter months is how I am able to get my footage. A lot of it has to do with being in the right place at the right time. Often the whales will get curious about us and approach the boat, and when this happens it is a very magical moment. Humpback whales can be very inquisitive animals and many times they spy hop, bringing their heads straight up out of the water to take a look at us. Words cannot describe the feeling of having a 40 to 45 foot animal look you in the eye. It is awesome -- and very clear that these animals are the gentle giants of the sea.
